Completely Crazy 4 Corns
Hi,
I've had my corn for almost 4 months and when I got him he was about 15 inches. I measured him after his last shed and now he's reached 20 inches in length, I've been feeding him one pinky mouse a week but was wondering if it might be time to upgrade to a larger sized mouse? Or are the pinkies still okay? Also, should I be feeding him two mice a week instead of one? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks! :)

at that size and age he could probaby go to fuzzies. you can feed him a mouse up to 1.5 times the size of the snake's thickest point.

yeah man my 4 month old corn is on fuzzie/fluffys now, she should realize she cant eat them sideways....but when she gets the idea she eats fine :)

Also you could be feeding every 5 days, but It does sound like you should be feeding bigger prey items. Have you been cutting them for digestion benifits? If not you can start by taking the prey item and cutting 3-4 v shaped cuts in their backs. This makes your snakes grow faster.

Most four month old corns would be eating fuzzies. Before moving to the larger size, offer a second pink after the first has been swallowed (I wait until there's at least an inch of neck between the bulge and the head before offering the second). If the snake eats the second pink, keep him at two pinks per feeding for a month, then try giving him a fuzzy.

I would be feeding more often than once a week. I feed hatchlings every four days until they are ready to eat two pinks at a time, which is at about six weeks. I then switch to two pinkies, every five days. When they are ready to move to fuzzies, I switch to every six days, and stay on that schedule until they are a year old or large enough to eat hoppers. My yearlings are eating once a week, either one hopper or two, depending on the size of the snake.
