My corn snake will be a year old this August. She is such a good girl, a great eater, and I love her to death. It saddens me to see how jumpy she still is. I handle at least 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes at a time. She is totally fine when she is in my hands. The problem is when I set her down. I like to let her walk across my bed or the carpet to explore. But if I let her do that for more than 5 minutes, she FREAKS OUT when I go to pick her up or touch her again. For instance, I had her on my bed the other day. She took a liking to a snake stuffed animal on my bed (haha) and spent time smelling it and "snuggling" it for about 15 minutes. When she finally moved on, I went to pick her up to hold her again. I made sure that she saw my hand coming so it didn't startle her. She saw my hand, but when I touched her, she literally jumped into the air and shot across my bed like a rocket. After I was holding her again, she was fine. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? I have read that most corns become more calm and indifferent to touching as they age, but I hate the feeling I get when she runs and I want to fix it. Any advice is very appreciated!
