In the wild, snakes make there own convenient little cuts before eating their prey. Puncture wounds.

Also known as teeth marks.

Don't the guts just pour on out all over the place when you defrost them?

Yes, they do. It's quite fascinating. :grin01:

I bought an amel stripe a couple weeks ago. the first time I feed her she ate eagerly and all seemed fine....until I fed her 4 days later. I left the pink with her and came back later to find she not only did not eat but regurged what was left of her previous meal 4 days before. All that was left was the skin. I waited 5 days then fed her a pink which she again ate with much enthusiasm. 5 days later I offered her another pink and again she regurged her previous meal.(skin only)......soooo I'm thinking it is a good thing I have been cutting her pinks because I know she is getting the nourishment from her food. Next time I feed her I will wait for 7 days and see if that helps her out :shrugs:

Please run, not walk to the FAQs on here and read them very thoroughly, esp. the piece by Kathy Love. She has put a great piece in there on regurges. She highly recommends that a person waits a MINIMUM of eight days between feeds. The common advice on here is to wait 10 days between feedings. A cycle of regurges can cause the death of a hatchling
:(

I have read it... I just wonder about this girl because she only does it when I offer her another meal, almost like it stresses her out. I have also read the discussions on whether it is considered a regurge or not after 4 days. Maybe I'll wait 10 days to feed her again. I can't imagine her having anything left after that long.

This is interesting. I've read about slitting before, but I never really took it into consideration, since my Mousetrap definitely lives up to his name. My little informer is a healthy eater, too. But if it helps digestion, and aids in a healthier snake, I'm all for it.

I can see both sides of the arguement, and I agree that either way, there's nothing WRONG with it. I've not once slit a feed for my snakes in the over-a-year time period I've had them, and they're healthy little critters. But there's always room for improvement when it comes to the health of my babies! haha

my little buddy ate fine the first day i hade him but tried to feed him again and he doesnt wont to know so im gunna wait a few days and then try slitting the pinky to see if that helps.
good reading this tho, so keep it going

Well, I swear I've tried almost everything with my girl. I've had her over a month now.
I've left her with the pinky, cut the pinky, brained the pinky, and washed the pinky. I don't have a way for scenting a pinky with a anole, so I don't know what to do. Should I just try a live pinky on her?
I'm thinking of just taking her back to the breeder to see if she can try and get her to eat. And then take her back after she eats.

I always give live a try before anything else. You might try a piece of raw chicken too. It worked very well on chondros and might work on corns as well.
