hello everybody, i just got a 4-5 month old albino ghost corn, (sex, i dont know) well any ways i was just wondering if aspen shavings would be alright for the bedding. If not then what else would be good, (besides paper towels). Thank You For Reading My Question.

Yes I also use Aspen bedding... it seems to be the best stuff out there right now... because its easy to dig thruogh... its a lighter color so its easy to find the poop... and it absorbes alot of the poop and water (if the water is spilled for some odd reason) and its has a low consintration of dust... so its a all around good substrate...
 
For a more natural settings, as I've not seen this mentioned anywhere as a positive or a no-no, how about Potting Soil? (I'm not suggesting, I'm asking as an uneducated n00b) :)

With other animals that I've kept, which are also generally Floridian natives, potting soil has been a great substrate for 'em (Anoles, Ringnecks, etc.)

Feeding would be done outside the tank, but it would allow me to create a more natural looking enclosure (plants, etc.)
 
Hmm I cant really see anything wrong with potting soil... except the part about cleaning up its kinda hard to find the poop if its on a darker surface... put potting soil seems like it might actaully be ok... It might be a little hard to find your snake if its hiding under alot of it though!
 
Some good suggestions... I'll bear that in mind.

Right now their tank is pretty bare... there's paper towels covering the whole base of the tank, with half of that covered in aspen shavings to about an inch deep or so.. on which is contained the logs to slither around and hide under. On the paper-towel-only side is the water bowl.

Do corns seem to go in the same place each time? In a relatively small section of their tank? Or is it basically wherever they are in the tank, if they need to go, they go? :)
