Snake being violent

i have seen her try. she is the size of a pencil right now and probably foot long. she isnt able to get to the top of the 20 gallon tank.

I was just trying to point out, don't assume she cannot get to the top, just because she hasn't managed it so far. Better safe than sorry in my books :shrugs:

If the tank has corners, she can get to the top if she wants to.

My thinking exactly... my snake uses the corners too, to get right up to the top. They are amazing climbers.

What's wrong with using sevin dust to treat mites?

And I agree, get a critter cage made by all-glass. Escape proof.

In my opinion ( and we all have one ! ) While sevin dust has worked for some without ill effects it is quite high on the risk list since it is a high powered insecticide. If it is going to be used, there are certain guidelines that should be followed so the snake doesn't end up with lung related issues. It is not good to suggest using it without full detail on how and of the risks involved. This product is not sanctioned or proven to be safe with animals yet there are quite a few products out that are proven to be safe on snakes. So why risk the health of the animal?

Also young snakes are more vulnerable than older snakes to respiratory problems and this snake was only two months old at the time of the sevindust treatment.

So ....that is why I said something about that chosen treatment on this animal. :)

Well, I know of a herp vet that in fact recommends the use of sevin dust as well as more than a few breeders who do as well.

Yes I do not argue your point at all Joe.

It is all opinions and experience of some ,versus experience and opinions of others with these type of things. It is okay if we dont all agree on things.

My issue was with reccomending a solution without giving the details of how to safely execute. Maybe I was out of line in the way i presented my opinion on that ( however vague it was)...it is something to think about next time I am passionately typing in a response to something.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks Sara. He is a leucistic rat snake ( obsoleta) . I love the way leucistics look. His mate is a leucistic albino so she is a bit more of a pearly white color.
