Snake Died

I had an 8 year old female cornsnake that just died tonight. She was refusing to eat for about a month. Back when she hadn't eaten for 2 weeks I wrote on here asking for advice. She appeared normal but wouldn't eat which had never happened with her before. People told me that snakes could go for several months without food and be okay. They said as long as she was normal and so was her stool that I shouldn't worry. So I took that advice and didn't take her to the vet. I should have been more cautious though. Her lack of appetite was obviously a symptom of something else. I'm just writing this so that people will realize that there is more than one reason for a snake not eating. I hope that everyone else's snakes will fare better than mine.

nae,

I am so sorry to hear your news. That is awful.

There are indeed many reasons for snakes not eating, and at this time of year many snakes refuse food because of breeding season. This was obviously not the case with your snake.

It is true that snakes can go for a couple of months without food and be fine, but this is assuming they are well to start with. As you say, the reason for your snake refusing food was a health issue.

I am so sorry, but also, she did die fairly quickly, so she wasn't ill for long, and the vet could quite possibly not have saved her in this case.

Best Wishes, Skye
