snake doesnt like water?

Hi,
I was just wondering if its normal for a corn snake to not like water.
I have had my baby for a week now and I've only seen him drink water once.
When I put him back in his viv after holding him I try to put him in his water dish and he hates it he just tries to slither away as fast as he can.
Is this normal?

Is there anything I can do to make him like water?
Or am I just getting worried over nothing?

Thanks for any help

well he probally drinks at night and I've heard that it depends on your snake if they like the whole bath thing. Unless he looks dehydrated then I wouldn't worry. If he is a little dry put him in a cm of warm water and see if he likes it. If anything he might drink some when laying in a little water. If he thrashes around then just take him out. I am by no means an expert but that's what i have read some people doing. Good luck. If you do do the tub thing then make sure you don't drown him.

Ya I put him in a little water and he freaked out lol so I took him out hesitant seem dehydrated but he is my first snake so I wouldn't know what that looks like anyway o_0

When they get dehydrated, their skin starts to look wrinkled or folded and their eyes can become sunken in or dented.

I rarely see any of mine drink, although sometimes they will if they've just eaten and I put them next to the water bowl when I take them out of their feeding tanks.

Bear in mind that they're active a lot of the time when you're asleep - dawn, dusk and overnight. They get up to plenty of things while you're not looking. I swear some of mine hold wild parties when I'm in bed, judging by the mess they make of their vivs!

I am also by no means an expert, but I've had two in my care about 10 years ago and now I have a small 12" one. The only time I have seen it drink was about 24 hours after feeding. Generally I don't hold him after feeding as its not recommended, but then the first time I do hold him after feeding, I put him down by the water dish and it has taken a drink then. Even then it wasn't much, compared to say when a dog slobbers up quarts at a time in the summer heat.

And yes, they are much more active at night. I suspect they drink plenty then.

I have read elsewhere and would suggest changing the water daily, and making sure the dish is big enough to soak in. I mean you don't need a lake for it to swim around in, but something more like a snake jacuzzi. Come shedding time, he or she may appreciate the water.

I've literally never seen my corns drink. They obviously do since they're alive and well, but witnessed it... not really. My ball on the other hand... well, I have noticed him dehydrated twice, his eyes get the "dents" maybe I can get a picture of it next time I see it so I can post a pic for everyone :)
The boa is the only one of my snakes who enjoys "bath time". He started soaking a few months ago and I catch him in his water bowl once in a while.

I've seen my corn drink, but when I first got him I had the same problem. I was so worried about him getting dehydrated and stuff, but turns out he isn't and has never been. I have tried putting him in water once and he did the same thing, it's like the water burns him >.< Soo, instead I got my hands just a bit moist and let him slither through my fingers. He seemed to like that and he kept flicking his tongue on my fingers. So if you're worried try that :)
