I told my husband they were little snake food factories, not pets so they didn't count under his "NO MORE PETS!!!!!" rule. They're so shy, when I walk into the room they're in they all hide in the igloo. Except if I stick my finger in the cage and move the wheel enough to elt it squeak the male gets brave and runs to get in the wheel and run and run and run. I guess he thinks he's running away... or he's keeping the wheel held down, lol. Or he doesn't want to share. The brown female is extremely shy and scared all the time, but the cream colored female is a little more brave and will occasionally come out when I'm around. I've never had any mice that were this shy, did I just pick bad mice?
 
Well you could always handle the next litter a lot from pinky stage and get them more socialized and keep them as your breeders. My mice are kind of shy too but they are excellent producers so I don't really mind. I only wish my rats would produce a litter that lives like my mice do.
 
I bred mice the whole time I was in middle school and high school. I don't ever remember mice being so scared, lol, but then again that was a long time ago and most of my mice were raised by me, with a few added bloodlines along the way. At one point I had about 35 adult mice, mostly female. But they produced tons of babies, so I had to get out of it. I just wish I had always kept some now, my mice were always so sweet.
 
Dae if youd like them to be a bit more social remove the igloo for a few weeks. If they dont have something to run and hide in everytime you come around they will get more interested in you.

After a few weeks you can reintroduce the the hide, but I have found them to be more detrimental to socializing.

Thanks, I never noticed that. When I got my first batch of mice they didn't have a hide. I took it out for a while last night, and they were running all over the place, lol. I did give it back to them before I went to bed though, I want them to be able to hide when my cat is threatening them from the other side of the glass.

I was housing the male seperately until they were a little bigger. But I got over that, and they're all living together now. All I need is one live pinky. Just one.
