I asked my roommate and boyfriend to feed the snakes while I went to work and I came back to see a full mouse inside of my snake's viv. I asked why they just left it there and why they were feeding in the viv instead of in the box where I usually put them to eat.

Apparently they were feeding my snake in the (topless) box and stopped paying attention and when they looked down, she had left the rat and escaped, they threw the moues in the viv while they searched and found her a few feet away. I was kind of annoyed, and went to get my snake out of the tank to try feeding her properly and lo and behold, the lid wasn't fastened and she's gone.:angry01:

That was hours ago yesterday and I still haven't found her. She's my new (expensive) snake and I have a feeling she got under the door of our residence room and is in the building where I will not be able to find her or get her back.

I've absolutely turned the room upside down looking for her, but apparently, to no avail, but in the case that she's still in here, are there are snake-finding tricks to get her back? I'm keeping a towel across the base of the door to try and secure the room.
 
I've also got a radiator across the back of the room which I turned up (it doesn't get very hot) and left the window open, so hopefully having one side of the room that's warmer than the other will move her to the back end, away from the door
 
welcome to the world of owning snakes and having room mates. Main reason I always recommend people who own herps not to have room mates.

Good luck in finding your snake, it sounds like you are in a dorm though. Are you allowed to have herps where you live?
 
Our RA allowed us to have them, however, if she's found by a janitor or someone who we don't know, they aren't going to return her to us.
 
Could you get a few mates to agree on leaving the inverted pop bottle with a mouse in it to try to trap it?

Not just that, if it is found out and you are not supposed to have it, well you could get into some serious trouble and so could your RA. Building rules are building rules, So I hope you find your snake and its not either destroyed or you not being evicted or at least punished.
 
Also, turn off all the lights and wait for 30 min or so, then go out with a flashlight and try to catch her wandering around. Look under things like the stove, microwave, beds, etc. I lost my snake in dorm too but I found him by dorm room by doing exactly that. He was under the stove. Try in between cushions, under clothes, in cabinets. Any place dark and secluded. Loose corns tend to climb so don't forget to look high and low. And remember, use a flashlight with the lights off in the room. Good luck!
