SNAKE INJURED! NEED ADVICE PLS!

Ares2010

Ex Snakephobian
My daughters little reverse Okeetee hatchling, Leia, somehow got tape on her jaw and throat. My daughter took the tape off as gently as she could.

It still took scales off her. Now my daughter is afraid to feed her today thinking it would hurt her or somehow damage her more.

Should she wait to feed her?, and also, is there something we can put on the area where she is missing the scales?

I guess I would hold off a day, unless she seems totally recovered, stress-wise. In the future, you can remove tape with vegetable oil or baby oil. I wouldn't put anything on it, but it might not hurt to change her substrate to paper towels for a week or so, till it scabs over, if a large area is involved.

If the area is large a little neosporin works well. Just make sure it is not the kind that has antiseptic in it as it is harmful to reptiles.

I second Nanci on the vegetable oil. Just had a baby ghost pull a Houdini and got stuck to some tape and I used vegetable oil but she was stuck good and some skin came off. I put triple antibiotic on her two times a day so it wont dry out. I also put newspaper in for substrate and took out the aspen bedding... Good luck and I hope your snake has a fast recovery.

Thank you guys.

I had her change out the aspen that was in her tank and put down paper towel. It doesn't appear to be bad, just the scales are missing.. I don't see a sore or anything like that. However, she will be watched closely. We are going to wait a couple more days before attempting to feed her.
