Does any have that program off of serpentine widgets? I found it online one day and I cant get the measuring to work. I will upload a picture if you are interested in giving me feedback. I did it the long hard way and printed the picture out and used string to get a measurement. I got 3'9".

Make sure you set your units first and then start the measuring.
Sorry unfortunately I am at work so I do not have the program in front of me and I can not give the correct names of the commands.
If somebody does not answer first, I will let you know the names of the commands when I get home.

Well I found out that it works with a .gif file instead of a .jpg for some reason. I got it! The best I can figure he is 3'8". It is amazing how much the skin stretches after ecdysis.

It works with .jpg or .tif for me. I think it's a fantastic program. Much easier than trying to measure a wiggling snake with a piece of string.

works with jpg for me too. The one thing that always gets me is that you have to have a picture of 640x480 or smaller to fit it in the window. Usually that takes two attempts for me because I always forget and end up with some kind of 2000+ pixel picture trying to squeeze in there

I used your picture and got 42 inches (3' 6") with trying to set the unit length as an inch.

When I retried, setting the unit length at a foot, I got 3.7 ft, which is 3' 8".

The best recommendation I can give is to zoom in a bit on the snake when you take the picture. The units on the ruler are hard to read. It might need to coil more, but that's no problem for the widget. Plus, the closer you get to the ruler, the more precise the measurement using the program. Also, use a better background than a carpet.

Either way, it's a pretty normal sized adult. Is it full grown?

Yeah, the larger your unit measurement, the more accurate it will tend to be. If you're off by one pixel out of an inch, you're off by twelve times as much as you'd be if you were off by a pixel out of one foot.

Interesting. Can you post that jpeg here? Not all programs save jpegs in the same way, so it may just be an incompatibility issue.

It should also handle bmp files, if I recall.

I've been thinking of adding a "scroll" feature to handle bigger pictures, but it's some extra work. One of these years I might get around to that... :grin01: In the meantime, if you increase the resolution on your desktop you can fit a larger picture. ;)

It works on my computer with a picture of 1000 X --uh, I can't remember. I guess it has to do with the screen size of your computer.
