Snake Names

HI Guys and gals, i'm sure i saw a thread on here recently about names for snakes, can any one help me locate this or any other sites, as i'm looking to buy another corn and will need some ideas what to name it!! thanks in advance

Just be creative! Here are my "creative" examples:

I have a ghost who reminded me of charcoal which reminded me of barbeque, so I named her Barby.

My g/f's new amel striped reminded her of pin-stripes so she named her Pinny.

And my butter mots I named Lando as in Land-o-Lakes and Marge as in Margerine.

I've ordered my first corn snake, from Susan actually. (I'm SO excited!) I'm going through a baby name book, there are websites like that as well. That's how I name all my animals though. :D

Lando???

Hubby wanted to name our dog Lando. After Lando Calrissian from Star Wars .

We try to think of obscure things. My friend and I are into British comedy. She named her dogs Milligan, Sellers, Secombe, Palin, and Sykes. Secombe and Milligan ("Millie") are female.

An acquaintance named her miniature Dachshund Woltan, after the German god, not unlike Thor. It's ironic, b/c apparently that's a typical German pet name for large dogs.

My kids have had several fish at their dad's. When they were younger they were a bit simple and went by colour. The black one was Blackie, the brown one was Brownie...Whitey... Bluey...The purple one was Grapey... My husband teases them about it!

I've had dogs named for classic films stars: Humphrey Bogart, [Lauren] Bacall, [Carole] Lombard, etc...

My sister names her cats and dogs after musicians: Sunny Cash, Loretta, Howlin' Wolf (the cat), Garcia, Scruggs, Sid and Nancy (fish)...

I wanted to name our new creamsicle something with a horror-motif, because he's still settling down and biting me! I thought of Reagan :puke01: , Damien, Andrew Woodhouse, Norman Bates, Ash, Caligari...

Okay, I'll stop before I bore you. I just enjoy naming things.

I don't name things until I see them. For me, animals have names that belong to them and it's my job to figure out what it is. (This is a bit more true with mammals than with reptiles.) It took us a week to name one of our cats. We couldn't figure out if he was a Leo or a Levi, and after a week it was clear to us that he was a Levi. Our other cat took even longer. At different times I felt her hame started with a G, was the name of some mystical creature, and that it had a short i sound in it. I didn't think of all three together. I couldn't come up with the right name. That cat went through three names in three weeks. Late at night, I stayed up watching Harry Potter and finally found it. Her name is Gryphon--all three characteristics were involved. I named our third cat before he was even ours. We weren't looking for a cat, but we went to look at the rescue cats in petsmart and spent some time looking at a kitten, for fun. After about 5 minutes, I declared, "This cat's name is Sir Lancelot. I don't know why, but that's his name. I hope the people who adopt him figure that out." We went back and got him the following day. We just call him Lancelot.

Snakes are not as obvious usually, but sometimes they can be. Kristi named one of my snakes. I had called her Scuter, but Kristi didn't like it. A week after I got the snake, Kristi told me she thought Scout was a better fit. I agreed. Elliot is named that because he reminds me of E.T. Pele doesn't have her right name, but that's what it will be until I find it! I think it will suit her once she grows up, though.

Probably this all seems silly, and maybe it is, but that's how I feel about names. I have no idea what we're going to do when we have a kid, because I think they don't let you take a kid home unless you've named it. But what if we can't find the right one???? I guess we'll just have to bite the bullet and pick something. :shrugs:

What a great topic! Names are almost sacred...scratch the 'almost'...I believe they are.
My daughter does the 'color' thing, too, and I was hoping she wouldn't come up with "Brownie-orange-guy-snake'' or worse, for her new friend (she has a doll named Yellow-comfy-couch). So, just jokingly, I start rattling off different kinds of corn...candy, cob, cream (style), peaches ('n' cream), kernal, niblets...."whoa!" she says..."NIBLETS!" So, Niblets it is. Poor guy. Suites him now because he's just a wee thing, but I imagine him all grown up and slinky and sleek...and we call him 'Niblets'...sort of blows any hope of a 'manly' image for him. He and I have agreed, in secret, that I can call him Kernal if I want to. Not so with his young mistress. When I asked if she was certain she liked 'niblets' she said, "Oh, yes! As soon as I heard it, I just connected with it!" (she just turned 6...go figure).
Cats are cool...I heard once that every cat has three names...their common name, their formal name, and a secret name. I think it's true. Every cat I have ever known has had at least two names. My cat's name is Mouse...but I often call her Petite Souris...and her secret name??? She'll never tell.

When I first got my cat I had him for three weeks. His name was cat. My grandpa called him little bear (because he was a big kitten and just a ball of black fluff, and he was rude and obnoxious). I was searching books, the internet, everywhere for a name that suited him. I left him with my sister one day to babysit while I would be gone for the weekend. She said "What's his name?" so I said "Gabriel" and that was it, and it's stuck. But when he's knocking things off the top of the china cabinet, or tormenting my small dog with his big black fluffy 20 pound self, his name is Booger. I picked my dogs name out of a baby name book after he was born. I picked him out when he was a week old, and named him Percival. He turned into a silly hyper active dog, so now he's Percy. I'm sure once my snake arrives and I've had her for a good few weeks, someone will ask me what her name is and I'll tell them, lol.

I've been influenced by literature, personally, on many animals.

Our first cat was one we took in--it had medical problems and died in about a year. That one kept her old name. But of the ones we picked out:

Gerbils: Herman and Sherman (from a kids' book about some pet gerbils)
Previous cat: Tao (Incredible Journey)
Current cat: Mi-ke ("mee-kay") from the Japanese (three colors)
Fish: Named after Rush songs (By-Tor was one)
Snake (not here yet): Severus Snake (per Harry Potter)
Future snakes, if and when I get them: Other Slytherin characters

All my snakes have pretty much named themselves and fit thier names. Most of them are egyptian names.

Kitana was named after my fav mortal comabt character (the new game came out when I got here) and then Rogue (cause the BF loves her from x-men haha)

as for egyptan names Isis, Osirus, Amon

one is greek, Loki cause I found him when he escaped his cage from his old owner

one african, Jira (she's a blood red and Jira in african is the goddess of blood)

and then my funny name, Tony Montana cause hes a miami phase and I'm mostly Cuban. I think it was funny lol not really but it stuck

And of course the boyfriend had to name one....Spike haha.

Awesome topic =)

My anery has been christened Sterling, because, when she's not in shed, her scales are a beautiful deep black and a gray that is really so sparkly it's silver. So she was named by appearence.

Dogs... we had K.C. Our last name begins with K, and the C stood for critter. Plus, "Casey" is Scotch-Irish and he was a West Highland White Terrier. Now, my mother has a Scottish Terrier, whose name is Oliver. My mother named him. Once I have a house, and am settled into it, I'll likely get a dog myself, a female Australian Shepherd. I currently like the name Sydney for her. :D

Another good snake name that I really like (and I think would suit a nice Ball Python, or a boa) is Malaki [Mal-uh-kie]. Got that from one of my students when we had a name-the-frog contest. I let them propose names, and then vote on the ones they liked best. So now, the African Clawed frogs are Dilbert and Lily.

Who else? I name some of my fish- bettas and other fish I can tell the difference between. I have had Azure, Benji (named by my Sig. other- after the guitarist in the band Good Charlotte), Caspian, Blue (I was 10- leave me alone!) and the best, named by my mother- Darth [Betta].

Other fish- Cash, the cichlid, cost me $10 in college and was, at the time, the most pricey fish I ever bought. Poseidon, the Bichir, named by my S.O. who is fascinated with Greek Gods. Mike and Little Mike were Corydoras cats. I have two current Kuhli Loaches- Kuhli-O and Joe Kuhli.

A Cavy was named Abby, but went by "Piggy." Gerbils- Dorothy, Dilbert, Dexter, Dottie, Charcoal, Boo, Roo, Digger, Noelle, Ebony, Olivia, Sophia. Hermit Crabs- Ninji, Shy Guy (both from Nintendo's Mario Bros.), Pigwidgeon, Cooper, and numerous others who I have long-since forgotten. Birds- Toby (a Cockatiel), Winston (a.k.a. Winnie, a parakeet), Sam (a 'keet), Fred (a 'tiel), Buster (a parrot- my moms)... probably many others too that I have since forgotten.

Many of my snakes are named for characters in books. The cats have been hard; matching a cat with a name is important.

One rule I've always had; if an animal comes to me with a name, I never change it. Just doesn't seem right, somehow. I mean, if someone loved them enough to name them, even if they had to get rid of them, the name should stay.

The most heartbreaking thing was the two adult mini horses we rescued. No one had cared enough about either of them to give them names. Sad, just sad.
