Snake Sausages

What does anyone know about the snake sausages. I have no issue whatsoever with feeding my snake mice. However, when my mother visits, she will want to stay in my apartment and wont be happy to see my gladware rodent collection. I thought maybe I could feed those while she was in town but didnt want to cause my baby any issues... :puke01:

I can't wait to hear what snake sausages are...
Just another learning experience for me! Keep up the great teaching folks!

You're a big girl now and if your mum stays at your house, you set the rules...visa versa at her house. My parents stayed with me for 3 days last october (they're in Australia, I'm in Sweden) and even slept in the same room as my snakes...my mum couldn't get enough of them after initially protesting that I should send my snakes to stay with a neighbor for a few days! Just don't feed around your mum, or defrost and feed when she's in the shower...or feed the day before she comes and the day after she leaves...it shouldn't be a drama.

she doesnt mind seeing him feed, its the block-o-dead-rodent in the freezer that bothers her. i was also considering this as something that could be fed in place of mice when im out of town and my boyfriend (vegetarian) is taking care of my snake. again, he is willing to admit that snakes must eat, and will feed mice, but if there is a snake-safe alternative that is just as nutritious, i thought it would make all parties more comfortable. then i would know that my guests arent upset and i know my snake is getting good food. basically i just want to know what people think about these. are they as nutritious as mice? are snakes as interested in them? things like that. i know the company says theyre just as good but i thought id survey people who dont have a stake in the product.

All they are is ground up mice, and placed in a sleave (sorry don't know what it's called) like the sausages you eat.

They are ok but a stable mouse diet is better. Also some snakes won't eat them at all, and others will only eat them after a good deal of scenting.
For my $.02 worth, they are not worth it.

There is a thread floating around here that mentions a possible risk to feeding the sausages to your snakes. There's something about the skin that is toxic, or something like that.

They're really expensive too.

I would just find a clever way to hide the mice. Just get some bland container, plop the mice in there, stick it in the back of the freezer, and cover it with other food (everyone has a corner of the freezer where all the unwanted food goes, right?).

Thanks...I was curious about the product and my Corn Snake manual from Kathy is taking a world tour, much to our mutual frustration. *wink*

I would say the same too. i have a solid colored piece of tupperware labled SNAKE FOOD in my freezer, and i then keep my "hunk-o-dead-rodent" in a plastic bag inside a paper bag. if my family is dumb enough not to take the hint, they deserve to be grossed out ;)

i would also advise against any cooked food diets, as it destroys many of the vitamins and minerals to my knowledge. please do not test unproven diets on your snakes. if you read through the one VERY long board, there is a post from Kathy Love regarding the fact that she fed RAW chicken giblets as an EMERGENCY food, but it did not take up more than maybe 1/3 of her snakes diets.

Personally...I wouldn't feed anything OTHER than whole rodents...
Snake sausages may claim to be whole mice ground up...blah blah blah...but I won't trust my snakes with prepackaged food.

but I won't trust my snakes with prepackaged food.

Agreed.

I have tryed them once for a non feeder who took them eventually and then started on pinkies (i did offer a pink/sausage alternate feedings). But that was a 1 off. I havn't used them since and wont do unless a hatchling refuses f/t f/k/ and live pinks, but hopefully it wont come to that.
