Snake Traps, How Do They Work?

Spitfire

Snakeless
I've seen pics of snake traps (2 liter bottle with the top inverted) but how do they work. Do you put bait in them or just let a snake crawl into it on its own? Where would you place them? Could someone explain snake traps to me and how to set-up/use them to catch snakes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, there is a marsh/swamp behind my house where there are all kinds of animals. A bunch of grass snakes too. Would this help in me being able to catch a snake?

Spitfire,

Fortunately I've never had to use the bottle trap before but I believe it can be baited with either water or mouse bedding to attract a snake. As for placement, I would place it along a wall in the room where the snake was last seen since they tend to travel around the parameter of a room the same way the do in their cages.

Cheers,
Jason

This is just a guess, I'm not very familliar with these traps, but I think based on your description they'd probably work kind of like bee-traps. Put some bait in the bottom, the snake will climb in through the hole to eat, and curl up inside for you to find or else be too fat and/or confused to get back out through the top. Googling it, looks like they should be sideways so he/she can climb in more easily. HTH!
