Snake with a broken back?

I have had a cornsnake for over 22 years. She appears to have a spinal injury at the middle of her body. She is about 5 feet long and no longer has movement beyond that point. Other than that she seems okay and active.
Any suggestions on how to care for her or if she will live? Thank you so much.

Did this just happen, or has she had this for 22 years? If it's something she's had forever, I don't think you have to really worry, she's already at old age for a corn. If it's new, I would think you'd have to worry about the same things that any paralyzed animal or person would have. Infection from an injury that isn't felt, and elimination of waste if the colon and such is also paralyzed.

You really need to get her to a vet, if you can. If there is no movement at all from that point onward, I would imagine she has broken her back, and there is also spinal damage as well.

My concern would be in relation to the ability to properly digest food. If she isn't able to digest, because the involuntary muscles needed to push food down through the system, then she'll need to be put down.

Sorry to have to say that, but it's best sometimes. Just take her to a vet as soon as you can, and then go from there.

Hope that helps some --
