Snake's age?

I'm guessing there's no trick for this, but does anyone know if there's a way to get an idea of an adult snake's age? I'm asking cause last November I got an adult pair from a local pet store, but I'm not sure I trust the info they gave me at the time and they're out of business now, so can't go back and ask again. The reason I don't trust what they told me, is they said the male was the female and vice-versa (so they obviously didn't know the pair as well as they told me they did). The male (an amel) is the smaller of the 2, so I'm guessing they didn't know and were just going based on size. The female (miami phase) just layed a clutch of 14 eggs, so that means she's gotta be at least 2, right? But just wondering is there anyway to tell if she's much beyond that? The clutch looks to be mostly slugs, so that and the fact that the male is smaller, I'm guessing he's not quite as mature as they told me he was. Well, just fishing for some insight here, so thanks if anyone can help.
