Snakes and Apartments

I have an apartment too. Granted my snake is still small, none of my neighbors seem to care much about me having him out in the lawn or on the porch. There was one incident where this girl saw him and sprinted up the stairs (running away). You're not doing anything against the lease so the neighbors will just have to deal with your slithery roommates. Snakes are so misunderstood, they don't even get to sit in the back of the bus:(

Hey All,
Thanks for giving me confidence and your personal experiences!

Last year when I was looking for a place I had one landlord say that snakes are the best apartment pets, being quiet, clean and nice to look at :). Unfortunately her suite was not up for rent this year otherwise I would have moved right in!

The property manager met Morphine (my little amel rescue in varying shades of orange) yesterday, and fell in love. I may have convinced her to buy a corn snake.. :)

Yeah but then again ....

I love snakes also, so please take this is it is meant.

I love cats, but some people hate them. I agree that many people have bad feelings about snakes from ignorance.

On the other hand, you signed a lease saying pets were ok if you kept them indoors.

I advertised for an tenant in an apartment share once, and we clearly asked for a non-smoker. A girl accepted, and started smoking out of her bedroom window. When we pointed out we had asked for a n/s, she said she only did it in her bedroom and only out of the window. However, we could smell it in the rest of the apartment, and I hate the smell of cigarette smoke. Big mess.

If you have a snake on the balcony, and a snake phobic person sees it and freaks - it would seem to be YOU who have broken the terms.

Why risk it?

You have permission to keep them. Be snake ambassador of boxed snakes :)

but I would be careful about the other stuff ...

just MO
