Snakes and Metal Bands!

Nugs

New member
So, i'm thinking of getting a corn snake however, i'm more concerned with it being comfortable. I am in a heavy metal band and the practice room is right next to the room i'd be keeping the snake in. We are a loud band. Full on double bass drums, loud bass guitar, and very powerful guitar amps. My drummer practices about every other day and we have practice twice a week. Would this be just too much for the snake even though it's in a room next to the practice room?

This thread might be of interest as it discusses corn snakes and loud noises:

I would recommend doing some testing, like standing in the future snake room when the rest of your bandmates are playing. I know that my snake definitely notices loud noises and vibrations. For example, when I vacuum she pokes her head out and looks towards the noise. But that is not an everyday occurrence. For loud noises that frequently, I imagine that would stress them out. So I think my answer would be dependent on how loud it is through the wall into the next room.

And welcome to the forum! This is a great community to learn about corn snakes. Always feel free to ask questions, but we also have a search function. If you do end up getting a corn snake, there are lots of "stickied" posts with care guides.

Mine usually poke their heads out when I vacuum as well. The quarantine room of mine is right up against the wall where the washer /dryer is and it took them a while to adjust to that noise and vibration. I can even hear the stupid things in my bedroom and it's clear on the other side of my house.

The small iPod I use sits on the table my adult's tank is on, but he's got a 4x2x2 PVC cage and doesn't mind the noise as much as the smaller ones that are in tubs. I would do as jag recommends, do some testing, maybe figure out a way to dampen the sound. Eggcrate foam is good for that, and I think some Styrofoam.
