Snakes Escaping

Depends on the size of the snake. A hatchling Corn can fit through the most ridiculously small holes, that you'd never consider to be a risk.

Best way to find an escape-proof tank is to get recommendations for a particular make/model from others who've used them without trouble.

I have just a regular one from petco with one of the sliding lock-in screen tops...there's only one place that looks like an opening, but it's suuuuuuuuuuuper tiny, and I don't know if a hatchling would be able to get through it or not...

Are you talking about a Zilla Critter Cage by any chance? That's what I have (20 gallon long with sliding screen top with two tabs in the back that it locks into and a place for a lock in the front). The general consensus I've read on here so far is that although nothing is escape-proof, these cages are pretty good. That being said, I don't have hatchlings, I have juvies. Maybe you could cover the hole with some hot glue or something to be extra safe?
