snakes on airplanes?

my girlfriend is coming home from college for spring break and she wanted to bring her 05 corn snake home. it's really only 14-16 inches and she was just gonna put it in a rubbermaid cup in her carry-on bag. is there anything that would not allow her to do this? i mean i understand if she gets through security; great. but you can't guarantee that she will. and then what, they tell her she has to get rid of it somehow before she boards the plane?

Or figure out how to get in writing that she can bring him on her carry on somehow. Good luck.

but do you know if they have like a strong opinion on it? like DEFINATELY NO? i mean if theres specific policy on animals i'd like to know cause if you can't even talk them into it then it's gonna stay at school.

Most airlines will have a stated policy on their website as to what animals can/cannot be boarded in the main cabin. I'd suggest she check there.

If she really wants to bring it, she may have to settle for checking it in and having it put in the pressurized cargo hold (and it will most likely incur an extra charge). I've flown my Lab many times that way.

jazz

they're not going to let her onto the plane

spring break is, what, a week?!?
if she can't find anyone to care for it, it should still be fine for a week
if she uses overhead lighting, timers are cheap.

Totally.

If it's only for a week, feed the day before leaving, leave it a BIG bowl of water and it'll be fine if it's only a week.

i agree i would just leave it at home for a week.
i have seen people bring small dogs and cats in those soft kennel carriers on to planes as their carry on bag. they just put the kennel under their seats or at their feet. but i'm not sure about snakes. they search all carryons...so just sticking the snake in a deli cup and in her carryon wont work.
and i wouldnt go through the hassle of trying to get it put in the cargo hold, it will cost a lot of money to fly an animal in the cargo hold. and you risk it dying or escaping.
and i'm not sure, but i would imagine there would be rules about having exotic animals on airplanes anyway and it may not be worth the hassle.
