Snakey poo/regurgitation

Daenerys

Mother of Dragons
Okay so being a first-time snake owner, I am not exactly sure what I should be looking for as far as snake poo goes. What does it typically look like? Small brown things or what?

My main concern here is that when I first fed my snake he regurgitated his food a couple of days later. So I attributed that to the stress of a new location and after I fed him again on Monday I have been keeping a very close eye on him to see if he regurgitates again. However either last night or Monday night it seems he burrowed underneath the layered paper towel I had placed in the bottom of his box and now I found small dried clumps of white stuff that kind of looks like chalk. Is this dry snake poo, or did he regurgitate again!?

First, I really hope you waited at least 10 days before feeding him again after his regurge. Kathy Love has a great post-regurge protocol (I'll get you the link in a minute).

Second, the white chalky substance is urates. Perfectly normal. :) Poo looks like poo...brown, semi-watery, often accompanied by urates.

Edit: Link to Regurge Protocol.

Oh, well if poo is brown and watery maybe it wasn't regurgitation I saw last time, but his poo. >_> And no I fed him 7 days later, I didn't know about Kathy's post-regurge protocol before then. As I said I am a first time snake owner...I know nothing about what snakey poo looks like, heheh.

Oh, and I haven't seen anything that looks like regurgitation in his box this time so I think even though I didn't follow the protocol (and also since his previous regurge is now under question because it might have just been his poo) he will be fine.

Did you pick up Kathy's book (I don't remember if you mentioned whether you did in your other thread)? It really is just about the best corn snake resource around. Also, there is a lot of great information in that link I gave you, it might be helpful to print it out (I tend to print out all helpful info, I have a giant binder full of it...its a great resource for things that aren't covered in books, then again, I'm a nerd, so I do a lot of extra research, lol).

You'll know a regurge when you see it. It will still look a lot like a pinky (amount of digestion depends on how long the snake kept it down before throwing it back up) and it will smell to high heaven!!

You'll easily tell a regurge from poo when it happens. Poo's a bit stinky. A regurge will make YOU want to regurge! Honestly, it honks to high heaven and the stench just clings to the room for ages. It really is one of the foulest things I've ever smelt. It makes poo seem positively fragrant...

Yeah I ordered the book through amazon but it wont be delivered until probably Monday, so right now I am just looking around here for info. And what I saw last time wasn't really mouse shaped, it was just kinda like a little brown puddle-ish spot so it must have just been poo...*sighs with relief*

I bookmarked the link, though. Thanks!
