sneezing...

my corn snake norbie keeps sneezing. is that snakably possible?!?! a sneeze?! i think that's what it is, i don't know why...temps are fine, humidity is fine, room temperature at night is between 73 and 77 degrees. ummm...also, he's active and he's eating well, but he seems a little weakened. there's no resistance when i push on his mid section, he just goes where my finger pushes him. also, he looks a little thin. there's lines, indentations going down his body. he is eating a fuzzy mouse every four days. i'm a little concerned. there's no real symptom of anything. he hasn't grown much since i've gotten him and i've had him since last february. he's gotten longer, not larger. i'm not sure what i am doing wrong, i try very hard. :(

Are you sure he doesn't have a repiratory infection? You might think about getting him to a vet if you can, but in the meantime, you could raise your viv temps for a while to help him fight an infection. Every 4 days is pretty often for feeding. I feed every 5 with my hatchlings. He might not be thin. You may just be seeing the ridges from the muscles that run the length of his body. Mine have the same thing. Post a picture of him if you can.

When was the last shed? Is it possible it's getting ready to shed?

Sometimes with some individuals, they seem to "pop" "click" or "sneeze" right before they show definate signs of a shed.

I don't know why, maybe someone else can enlighten both of us on this more, but I do know that it can and does sometimes happen.

I'm surely not saying that this is definately what is going on, just throwing another possibility out there.

Forgot about that Quigs. Mine makes clicking noises before shed sometimes. That could be it.

My snake's entire body jumped straight in the air after his eyes cleared up from the blue phase...I thought a noise scared him or something, but could it have been just him "popping?" I guess it would make sense if it was because he was going to shed soon...

Happy Holidays! :santa:

I have noticed that some of my snakes will display some of the signs of RI (clicking, popping & yawning) right before a shed- there are no others signs, such as mucus etc. it is my understanding that the old skin (before it comes off) can sometimes partially obstruct the nares & that is why they need to yawn etc to get more air in, I raise the temp just in case, but after they shed all those symptoms disappear. This has happened to my corn, rat and 2 different pythons on separate occasions
hope this helps happy holidays! :santa:

thanks for responses....

he shed about a month ago so he could be getting ready to go at it again. last night i cleaned out his viv and fed him during that process. he ate two pinkie mice. i did not notice any noises when i handled him prior to his meal, ie, sneezing, weezing...no symptoms of ri, nostrils are a little filthy because of the substrate i was using, but there is no bubbling or running. his body doesn't look as thin. i may have mentioned...this snake has had difficulty in the past finding his water source. i have added a larger bowl in the center of the tank near his larger hide, the smaller bowl is placed near . he ate well last night...i have him on fuzzies usually, but petco only had pinks last night so i gave him two. a respiratory infection is not out of the question with this little guy, however, i am not going to rush him to the vet because at the moment he is active, eating and seems to be a little stronger than a few days ago. there are no symptoms at this time, but i am keeping a careful eye on him.
