So, Not all Pet stores are bad!

I was just at my local pet health food store, they only cat and dog stuff but they really know what they're talking about. I mentioned to the woman working there that I also have snakes, and I have to say I was shocked by her reaction, mainly because it was SO positive. So positive in fact, that I spent the next two hours there talking to her about reptiles, she wanted to know everything about them, how to care for them, how big different species get, what type of home/enclosure to keep them in, why I don't like chain pet stores (I made a big stink about it) and even the cost of keeping them.

I wrote down the addy for this forum as well as one other I'm a part of so she could do some free research on her own, since she told me she and her fiance are interested in getting a snake but were put off by the pet store prices for everything (Snake, tank, bedding, etc).

I even offered that they could come to my house and hold my snakes to see what it was like and if they felt comfortable holding snakes. They could even get a taste of a small variety at our place since we have a couple different kinds. She looked really interested and I think she's going to take me up on the offer pretty soon!

Just wanted to share this GOOD experience with you guys since there are so many pet stores out there that just don't care enough and just want the sale. This made my day! :)

That's so awesome! It's weird how one great experience can make all the crappy experiences/reactions (and there are a lot! lol) seem so much better...

How awesome for you to be so helpful and inviting too! I'm excited to welcome her to the snake world if she chooses this addiction....you mentioned the addicting aspect right? haha. Yay for a win!!! :D

Right?! It makes me feel a lot better to know that there ARE people out there who are just in it for the well being of the animal, no matter what species!

Well, I wanted to be inviting because I felt that could make or break an experience into reptile keeping as well! And yes, I definitely mentioned the addiction! :p

This isn't so much about a store as it is a person, I think.

I do however, love when I run into people like this. My pet store chains around here are awesome.

It's more about the person yes, but the store also because they are good at what they do. Our pet store chains are not good at all, I rarely go to them and if I can I avoid it completely. So I'm glad I have come across this locally owned store to shop in for my cats.
