I lost my little Noodles tonight, its really sad.. I have no idea what happened so any help would be great. I fed him 5 days ago he has pooped since then. He has been acting fine. Today I got home and he was out, which was surprising because he usually isnt out during the day. Anyways, he moved around and then started opening his mouth and it looked like he was "gaging." He did that several times and then he stopped and kinda strolled around his tank. So I got on here and read about them opening their mouths when they start a shed. He was due so I was thinking maybe that was it. Later I came back to check on him and he was in his hide and he was fine. I left the house and came back a few hours later and there he was in the middle of his cage upside down, dead. he had a black spot on his stomach but he has had that ever since I got him.. Also he was swollen in one area when he was dead. I haven't noticed anything out of the norm before. No swelling, all of the temps were perfect. etc. He was only about 5 months old. I was very attached to him.

The little dark spot that he developed is normal when snakes die. I forget exactly what it is, but it's simply the body's response when it undergoes death. This wouldn't have been what did Noodles in.

How long did you wait before feeding him after his last regurge? Maybe you fed him again too soon after that? You should wait around 10 days to feed again after they regurge. Considering his age, I would *assume* that hatchlings are more susceptible to ill effects of a regurge. If he was opening his mouth, maybe he was attempting to regurge again but it got blocked? Just throwing out ideas... :shrugs:

I have no clue what may have caused little noodles death. The little dark spot is natural though, as Ginafish had said. Its caused by the gall bladder realeasing its fluids after the snake dies.

Hopefully this loss doesn't deter you from getting another lovable little snakie!

I waited 12 days after his first regurge just to be on the safe side. :(
 
possible cause of death

Well, despite our best efforts, it happens. This is why mother nature gives some animals so many babies. I would suggest vet check, especially examination of stool speciman of any new purchase as I suspect many deaths are due to parasite overload.
 
I am so sorry to hear about little noodles.

We just lost our 3 year old corn a couple days ago...It is amazing how attatched you get to those little ones.

Someone had suggested to us (on here) to refridgerate him and have an autopsy done. (Unfortunately I had put him in the freezer until his funeral tomorrow so I messd up any chances of finding out "why".)

I really wish I had something witty to say to cheer you up...
