Some Help with using the Forum Please.

I am been trying to become more of a contributing member lately and I have some questions about using the forum.

1. What are there "reputation points" and how to you give or receive them?

2. How do you "quote" someone in a thread??..I seem to have trouble doing this"

This is my 1st forum and I am not sure of how to use all of the tools available.

Thank you

rep points are given to people that post something you find helpful, cute, informative, etc. You do it by clicking on the scales in the lower left of their post.

To quote, click the "quote" on the lower right.

Welcome to the forum!:wavey:

1. Concerning rep points, check this link out, it's pretty all-inclusive:

a. The button for giving rep is the balance scales looking thing under the person's name at the bottom left hand corner of their post window.

2. Concering quoting someone, there are several things you can do:
a. You can click on the quote button of that person's post which will take you to a "new post" screen which will include their post within quote brackets ( [ quote=seakat ] gobble-de-gook [ /quote ] ) without the spaces within the brackets of course. If you only want a portion of their original post quoted, simply delete what you don't want between the brackets.
b. If you want to quote multiple posters, I prefer a fairly simple copy and past method by simply right clicking on the quote button and opening the "new post" window in a separate tab. (I use firefox, not sure if IE has tabs or if you'd need to open a separate window.) I copy each individual quote from each window into one, and add my words as necessary.
c. You can put in your own quote simply by typing out the quote brackets within your "new post" screen. ( [ quote ] gobble-de-gook [ /quote ] ) Without the spaces in the brackets of course!

Regardless of how you choose to insert the quotation, you can insert your own words before and after the quote(s) as long as you keep your words outside the quote brackets. You can get fancy by including your words within the quote and then bolding or italicizing your words to make them stand out, etc.

:shrugs:
Hope that's clear and that it helps,

Here is my test quote- Thanks for the info!

So what does it mean when people say something along the lines of "I would rep you, but I have to spread some rep around first"? Can you not rep the same person more than once until you rep other people first to prevent favoritism?

Correct; I think you have to rep 25 people between repping someone or something similar, to prevent exploitation of the system. :)
