Some Questions

So I'm thinking about ordering one of Rich's 2004 hatchlings. It will be my first corn, and I'm trying to decide between a Butter corn, Butter motley corn, or a Blizzard corn. The butters look nice, but so do the blizzards. Is there any one of those three in particular that would be good for a beginner? Also, are females more tame than males, or more aggressive. Which is best to start with?

Thanks guys :)!

No certain color morph is better for a beginner, unless cost is an issue. Have you already done plenty of research into how to care for your snake? That's the most important thing you have to know about. If you have done research, then whichever morph you like best will be fine.

And I've not ever seen a difference in general temperament simply based on gender.

I am looking into buying my first corn too, and I have found that most breeders will readily tell you whether or not they would recommend the one you like as a first snake! welcome!

Yep, I've been reading through the various care sheets and manuals. I'm wondering, are the females usually larger than the male snakes? Also are most blizzards a solid white, or do the yellow/lemon saddles really come through?

as far as the yellow, it really depends on what the parents of the animal were. females are not bigger than males on a normal basis. there was a report somewhere that an okeetee male reached 6 ft, but i never heard anything about a female being that big so it is possible that the males are larger

The butter motleys look very nice, I'm guessing they're more pricy because it's hard to get the two genes together in one animal? BTW, does anyone have any good hatchling blizzard/butter pics?

males are generally larger than females. Neither is more aggressive than the other. They both make equally good pets.

Some people on this site have corns over 6ft (but it is rare). The largest corn I have is about 5 1/2ft and she is a female.
Blizards tend to be solid white and white coloured corns which bring through yellow sadles are snow corns.

some blizzards do eventually get a lot of yellow around their heads and saddles may arise. But, that doesn't mean they change from blizzard to snow :p

oh right, well it could be a Leucistic Ratsnake then. But it has the same colouration as a blizzard

Are there any behavioral differences between the blizzards and butters? I read a thread about the blizzards being somewhat more tempermental.

hmmm, i don't think so. different snakes have different personalities but it usually doesn't matter what orph they are. otherwise i could say that hypo okeetees are mean :p

Lol, I have read in early posts that Blizzards can be agressive, but in my opinion, the morph of the snake doesn't that the snake is goin to naturaly be agressive

Well, I've decided on the Butter Motley. I've found a nice starter kit, what do you guys think? Also a question for Rich, I won't be using the sale coupon, is feeding still guaranteed or no?

Another question, which is better for the beginner, a male or a female corn; also how do they differ size-wise/temper, etc.?

Loks like a pretty good starter kit to me.

I think a lot of new owners buy males since they are cheaper. As for temperament and size, I've never really noticed much difference betweem male and female..

Regarding the started kit:

You will want to add a thermometer and a second hide (one for cool, one for warm). Please note that hides don't have to be as elaborate as the cave shown. A small box with a doorway and the bottom cut out can serve nicely. Otherwise it looks good.

Optionally you could add a rheostat to fine tune the temps.
