Nice hog! Never did come across one in FL, but right away here in GA I came across one a little bigger than that, in full defensive mode and all...then again, I was about to step on him, so can't say I was too surprised lol

Eastern hogs are by far my favorite type of hognose's, I hope to get a couple of them one day... I just rarely ever find them for sale, and when I do I cant afford them at the time...LOL
Beautiful snake.

Nice shots of the Gopher Tortoise. I have seen many burrows, but never the tort.

Holy hell, what kinda spider is that, a banana spider? lol sorry spiders freak me out and if i saw that bad boy id have to vacate the premises immediately. lol

Looks like a banana spider. We got lots here and when mowing in my field next to the trees I always end up walking into their freakin webs! Eww!

Also think that anole is cute and of course the corn snake. I'm not a big fan of the hognoses. Though I think it's funny when they play dead. I've also read they produce a nasty smell.

I believe it is a type of orb weaver. Banana Spiders are pretty deadly if I remember correctly, these though are not. I used to have them in my garden every year when I was a kid. I actually caught a couple and used to pet them when they were in their web...

 Woo!!! Spiders!

"Banana spiders" are Brazilian Wandering spiders, and they're usually found in bananas... They don't build webs, however. And they are pretty dangerous. Orb weavers are pretty harmless, just big and scary looking. Just thought I'd leave that little tidbit in here, as exciting as it is...

I love that hoggie! And also your other photos. A friend of mine has a gopher tortoise near a fence line in her horse pasture, she let him stay there just because he wasn't putting the horses in danger of breaking a leg or something. They're cute little things.

Angela....

Lisa has my glasses across the room making bracelets, but I think they may be a Southern Hognose.

Yeah, I realized that eventually because later that week I encountered an eastern hognose adult and it looked very different. It was nice seeing both species in the same week!

Trip to Central Florida

Hi,
Does anyone have any info on where would be a good place to go herping in the Orlando/Tampa area? My wife, daughter, and I will be visiting my Mom in Lakeland during the 2nd week of October. Would like to do one day of herping with the family. Any ideas??
Thanks for your help
Tim

That spider is a beauty! We used to find them in the blackberry bushes that lined our farm fence when I was growing up. Brings back fond memories :).

I believe that spider is called a Garder (or Garden) Spider, I've only ever saw 1 living in Minnesota so i don't think we have many

EW EW EW and OMG EEEEEEEWWWWWWW Spiders totally freak me out.

Ha! I will stick with my snakes. I see a spider and I am running in the other direction yelling for someone to get it. LOL A camel spider had me screaming like someone was trying to kill me.

Typical female... lol:grin01: j/k

but for real, if your in your house, a fly swatter is a good defense weapon for spiders, or a newspaper lol

when your outdoors, just go around it lol :)
