Spotted a turtle crossing the road!

I saw a red eared slider, the shell about 10 inches long and 8 inches wide, crossing the road in a park near where I live. He was booking it, going away from a pond. I stopped and put on my flashers and waited for him to finish crossing, but he couldn't get up on the curb. I hopped out of the car and lifted him (just by the shell, towards the back, hoping to avoid a bite) and set him where he was headed.

It was so cool! I hope I did the right thing, and I hope he makes it back to the pond safely when he is ready to head that way. That park is full of animals and it is so much fun to watch them from a distance. :)

It could have been a female going in search of a place to lay eggs. Turtles can be pretty determined about going where _they_ want to go!
