Still "hunting" after eating

I had been feeding two tiny pinkies to my charcoal hatchling because he was digesting one of them in 24 hours. But I just got larger pinkies and fed him one about 20 minutes ago. The combined size of the two tiny ones was probably still bigger than the large pinkie, but I didn't want to overdo it and risk a regurge by feeding two. He's clearly feeling the lack of extra food though, because he's back in his viv and exploring like he usually does during the week after he has digested. He even tried to get up to the rim of his cage, but his food bulge is too big to fit. :) I just checked and he managed to get the rest of his body, minus the food bulge into the crevice between the screen and the tank. The food bulge is hanging off the rim. He's so silly! Oh! Part of his body just fell off the ledge. They're so entertaining!

Cruella does this some times. My kid spaz's out when he sees it. He thinks it's the funniest thing in the world and calls her a "silly snake" when she does it. He thinks that means she wants to come out and play.

It's so funny how we can all share in these experiences and understand the humor and the happiness they bring to each and every one of us. Definitely a trip.

Cruella has come to EXPECT two pinks now at every feeding after the last two weeks of doing things that way during her transition to large pinks. She is a hot mess. She literally after downing the first one stuck her head up and placed her mouth on the glass opening of her feeding critter cage awaiting pinky two, lol.

LOL. My son hand fed our year old Pewter his first fuzzy, he took it from his hand. I suggested he does not make it a habit!! He was about to burst it was so big, but he scarfed it down....

How do you know he is hunting? (just curious, as mine never moves much)

It's an instinctual feeding response. In the wild, they're going to want to hunt as much as possible because they don't know when they'll next see food. Some snakes do it all the time after they eat. Usually my guy Severus just goes into his hide to sleep it off, but it was funny last night because he didn't.

Sindrik8x, I love reading your posts about Cruella. She seems like such a character!

Thanks Rachow. She definitely has personality, there is no doubting that.

Just curious, I see a join date of 09', did you take a break with herp keeping for a while and just recently get back into the mix with cornsnakes? Just curious with the post count. Then again, I'm a posting nut so it may be that I post way too much, lol.

I got my first corn, an '09 amel in 2009. I kind of forgot about this site until last year. I got my second, a '13 charcoal, this past July. I've been much more active on this site since this summer. I lurk more than I post, cause I still consider myself a bit of a noob. My amel has been so easy, despite getting her from Petco and not doing nearly as much research as I could. So I don't have a lot of experience with problems to try to help people. I did just graduate from veterinary technician school and pass my boards to become certified. I learned a lot in school about reptiles keeping and health issues and I did an internship at a vet which saw reptiles so I feel more confident posting now than I did before. I really enjoy just reading people's questions and contributing where I can to help. I'm a sucker for learning new things so I read a lot of the questions/problems posts so I can learn what to do if that situation ever arises with me.

Congrats on passing your boards, I know that must have felt awesome to accomplish something like that. It's cool that you have the experience in herping from school too as I am sure you are able to catch poor healths igns or problems early on or fixing problems as they arise. Glad you're back.

My 2 corns are like night and day compared to each other.

My girl Sylvara (born 2009) eats very dainty like. She picks the mouse up and moves it around until it is just right to eat. Then she crawls off to her warm hide to sleep while she digests.

My boy Sigurd (born 2010) slams his mice with all his might. He wraps those coils in lightning speed! He usually comes flying out of his hide so fast to pound the mouse that he flings the hide upside down! Once he is done killing his already dead mouse (and I've righted his hide) he slithers back into his hide backwards looking around to make sure no one is watching him.

My kingsnakes like to hunt more after being fed though. All of them circle their bins flicking their tongues looking for more food as soon as I've finished feeding them. I know they have had plenty to eat. But my kings are little gluttons and would eat and eat and eat if I'd let them.

Winged, love the Sylvara name you picked out. I'm a big gamer and one of my Role Playing names I use for female characters is Sylveraine.

Thanks. I actually named her after a dragon from the Dragonlance books. In the book it's Silvara. I've always liked that name. So way back when I started playing World of Warcraft I wanted to use that name. But it was already taken. So, I changed the spelling. After making my character I realized I picked a pretty good blood elf name lol.
I no longer play WoW though. I miss it sometimes.

I played GW2 for a while, but never got into WOW even though a majority of my friends did. GW2 was my first MMO. I'm more into the fantasy RPG solo campaigns of Elder Scrolls, Fallout, stuff like that.

So off topic, lol. I feel you though. My tag name in here is actually my #1 fantasy name I use in most games (big Orc fan and it sounds mean, haha).
