still not constricting

Hey guys last week I posted a thread and got a lot of great advice on trouble eaters and how to get them to eat but that's not really the issue so thought I would try again.

I got a young corn that will not eat frozen thawed but is a regular eater never misses a meal as long as its alive. (Fresh kill, brained, scenting with lizards nothing matters if its not alive)(well ok he will take a f/t immediately after a live so that's a good start)

I will keep trying to get it to take to f/t but until then he doesn't constrict. As soon as he is placed in his food box he finds the pinky grabs it by the head and just holds it till it is still enough to eat. Will he ever out grow this I mean there aren't really any training classes I can enroll him in at the local super-duper-pets-r-us-co-mart on how to constrict and not eat your food alive. I mean I worry this is going to lead to scratches and worse if he doesn't figure it out and never gets off the live food.

When I used to feed live, mine swallowed pinks and fuzzies without killing them. That's when I switched over to f/t. Have you tried slitting a pinkie for the little guy? I asked the breeder I had gotten my first corn from why he did not constrict, and he told me that until they feel that the prey is a threat, they really won't do it. If the little guy never does end up switching over, you'll start to see more constricting behavior as he moves up in size.

Unfortunately, babies don't really constrict. :( It is something that they do start doing when they get a little older. I do have some about 6 months that are starting to do it but even then they aren't curling tight enough to kill a pinky. So I would just continue to do your best at trying to get him over to f/t thawed. :( I hate when I have to feed live to a baby. An adult does bother me to much cause at least they kill theirs.

A lot of snakes do not constrict pinks. It's cruel but it's nature. They eat them alive because they can. A pink isn't going to put up a fight. Once on bigger prey that runs around he probably will constrict.

Yep, I have some that will eat a live pinkie without ever constricting, but once they got on bigger fuzzies they contrict without a problem!

Thanks everyone its nice to have a real consensus that this is normal well maybe not normal but natural I've got 3 the anery constricts his frozen thawed like he's competing for american gladiators the snowy she to only eats live but she tries with a half ass effort to constrict but the amel just grabs and eats. So again thank you all.

Ps the anery got me last night for the first time we didn't name him fat ass for nothing I could see the headlines now 4 month old baby corn eats 6'3" 275lb man at least in his mind that's the way it was going to happen.
