Striking?

I'm Old Greggggggg
Hey I've had my corn for a week now but whenever i feed her she never seems to strike or constrict. So i just lay it in front of her and she eats it.Does anyone know if she'll ever strike at her pray?

Thanks for the help . Chuck.:dancer::dancer:

Once your snake is eating regularly and growing, you could try the 'hot zombie mouse', use tongs or tweezers to wriggle the mouse and you might get the snake to strike. This little beastie does it anyway, even without the zombie dance

Neither of my corns strike at all - they nose the mouse and then get very still like, hmmm maybe if I'm sneaky it won't move! Then they bite it quickly! Its kinda cute actually... my snow tends to crawl around with the mouse in her mouth a bit, like a dog with a bone!

I've only had my corn for a few days, but i gave him his first feed yesterday and he was more than happy to take it. He didnt strike either though, Just happly slithered up and started chomping away.

Maybe they dont feel the need to strike at a non-moving prey? Would make sense. :)

Though, my snake is just a hatchling and may start striking when it's older heh. Thanks for all the comments everyone :crazy02:

I never seen my snakes constrict.
Hope they gonna do it. Looks so cute :)
Maybe Gonna try the Zombie Dance

If you look at my pictures of Buck or Slim, in fact all of my snakes that are good feeders, they all strike and constrict Zombie mice! In fact I use long forceps for feeding, so I sometimes wriggle the mouse more after they have struck to simulate a prey they have to subdue, but only with the sub-adults and older. For the hatchlings I just want them to feed and grow.

My snakes are 4 months old.
So they're still little critters :)
They may eat like they want to.
(normally their next meal will be 2pinkies, I wonder how well they're gonna take that)

The constricting baby I showed is my evil het blood from Vinman. He has bitten me countless times, and he actually hisses as he strikes his food too!

lol He sounds adorable Janine! lol

Only one of my little guys actually constricts, my little Butter... they were all raised on f/t so I guess they never really HAD to constrict...lol

My two bigger ones only contrict if the mouse is still twitching a bit (I do kill them first but I usually chuck them in there while they are still in their death throes...) otherwise they just swallow without constricting as well...

I think he is just referring to making the mouse jiggle or wiggle to appear alive.

You said your snake was just a baby. In the wild a baby snake would be eating baby mice same as with you at home. Pinkies are not going to run away or really need to be restrained like an older mouse would be. I think it is probably normal for baby snake to dispense with the stripe and constrict process when it is not necessary.

My wife does the feeding and she routinely holds onto the mouse’s tail and when the snake takes the mouse she pulls it back and tries to take it away from the snake. As a result, all of my snakes strike vigorously and coil and squeeze the juices out of those dead mice. It think it is good for the snake and I know it is good for my wife. Keeps her busy all afternoon
