Striped Bloodred?

Here is new shot of this snake. Look how dark his head has gotten. I guess it has the potential to be a striped bloodred after all. He is really nice though either way. Thanks

Wow! Those pics are really interesting! I think a case could be made for those belly shots to be showing either the stripe effect OR the bloodred effect, OR (more probably) BOTH characteristics being present.

Next year, hopefully, I should have some double homozygous motley bloodreds, and then I'll have some examples from which to offer a comparison.

Really cool snake -- Thanks for the pics!

:D

wow
what a nice looking snake!
I hope that it's really a striped bloodred for you!

We'll soon find out in a couple of years when you breed it~~~

Really nice looking snake!

That first picture really blew my mind. That is exactly how I imagioned a perfect Bloodred stripe. The belly shots however look normal stripe to me. It is really interresting. I was expecting more normal Bloodred belly. Do you want to know how I differentiate Motley and Stripe from Bloodred belly? Bloodred has a way more 'dirty' pattern on the belly.

Stripes and Motleys have a perfect white first part on their belly. Bloodreds have the creeping red also on the first 1/3 of the belly. The problem you are facing now is that most Stripes have no head pattern and do fade at age.. So the only way to prove if it is a Bloodred Stripe is breeding it to a normal Bloodred. You should get all Bloodreds het stripe.

I disagree. I have bloodreds that do not have that creeping effect on the first 1/3 or event he first 1/2 of the belly, and I have one amel bloodred whose belly pattern is almost IDENTICLE to the one Mike has shown above.

Breeding will only tell, of course, however, I am very excited by the pics I've seen here. I can't wait until my F2s are here!

Darin,

Could you post a pic of the belly that looks exact like the Stripe? I am very interested to see that. I have normal stripes that look exact like this one..

belly pattern. .

I'd estimate that 1/3 of my bloodreds have as much as 97% white bellies and there is little or no difference in the anterior and posterior ventor sections. I'm not seeing in mine what you are seeing in yours there. Perhaps the gene pools over there have the propensity for that type of ventor pattern. I do have some like that, but I'd never say that was a trait of the bloodred.

Unlike the motleys that have much more consistent belly pattern, the bloodreds seem to be all over the charts on that.

That is exactly what I ment with 'Bloodreds have more of a dirty pattern'. What I also notice is that all Stripes and Motleys have the same belly pattern as Mikes stripe but Bloodreds have a different type of white. It has a metallic glance. Not all Bloodreds over here have so much red. Most of them have only almost a white belly as this female of mine:

But it is very different from any Motley or stripe I have. Don, I remember you showing me a few pics of a Stripe two years ago on KS. Do you still have that picture? It is identical to Mike's stripe.

Darin,

Still no time to respond? I tried to take some pics of my Striped bellies. This striped has no Bloodred genetics in her what so ever.. The belly looks exact like Mikes

belly

Marcel:

Don't have time to shoot now, but that is exactly how most of my stripers look regardless of their color. I'll try to get a few shots for ya, but just got a big ouchie on my finger. My typing and snake holding hand. Ouch.:awcrap:

Marcel,

Here are some shots of my hypo bloodred's belly, which I believe look very similar to what Mike has shown:
