My clutch of 15 babies this year had four non feeders. One ate with no problem the second time he was offered food, but the other three have not eaten on their own yet.
I've posted a bit about two of them that have cleft palate things going on, which may be why they don't want to eat, but the third baby, Hibiscus the fire tessera, doesn't seem to have anything visibly wrong with him. I took pictures of him after his first shed, but once it became apparent that he was not wanting to eat, I've stopped handling him. He's quite a tiny little guy at 4 grams.
I've been trying a bunch of different methods, once every 5 to 7 days, with no handling or bugging in between. After trying pinkies served many different ways, including live, I decided to try lizard. I offered a small piece of a frozen thawed lizard, which was not eaten, but Hibiscus did seem interested in it when I wiggled it around a little bit. The next week, I happened to find a very tiny baby lizard, so I knew I had to try catching it and offering it to him. I put it in his enclosure with him and just completely left him alone for a few days. When I peeked in on him, there was no lizard to be found!
Look at this tiny little guy. He's longer than a pinkie, but I think his weight is probably only like half a pinkie.
I am delighted that he has finally eaten something on his own, but continuing to catch lizards for him is not a feasible solution, but lo and behold, I managed to catch another teeny baby lizard yesterday. This one is a little bit larger than the last; maybe the size of a small pinkie.
Anyway, I'll try offering him the new lizard in a few days, and then I will start trying to scent pinkies with lizard.
