Hey Guys,

One of my mice had 14 babies yesterday at about 1 PM. At about 2 I went out and took 11 out to euthanize and put in the freezer. I always whack them in the head, and then toss them in a big cottage cheese container for a few minutes because they wiggle sometimes. I usually feed on the days I do it, so I just left the tub and went in the house for a minute...... 12 o'clock, midnight, I bolt out of my bed and run to the garage to find my tub still full of dead baby mice! I had forgotten all about them. When I opened the tub there was no smell, although they were stuck together. They were freezing cold, so I bagged them up and put them in the freezer just in case. My question is, are they ok? I would really hate to have killed all of those babies for no reason!

Thanks,
Jordan

I am not an expert but I think you should be fine, I think if your snake is not used to eating f/t mice, then the snake might want to eat them. However I have read somewhere on this site that you can trick your snake into thinking they are alive.

I think you will be ok. With pinkies and even fuzzies, their body mass is so small the chill really fast in the freezer. I don't try to pre kill them but just pop then in the freezer. On really little ones like that it is hard to smack then in the head without squishing them. I personally think you can skip that step.

Thank You Both.

K' Bear, all of my snakes are on F/T, so it will be no problem, lol.

Wade, I just dont feel right sticking them in the freezer, so I whack em. I hit them one good time and they stiffen up and quit moving. I pop them in the freezer and its done! I used up the rest of my Rodent Pro mice last week, so I used homegrown ones for the last feeding. They did perfect, and the snakes ate them like Champs! :dancer:
