Stupid Plastic Branch With Hole In It!

Heeeeey. I was just wondering if anyone else has one of those plastic branches (from pet stores). They have a pretty big hole on the bottom I guess to vent it during production or somesuch?

I had the hole plugged up for a while but I just washed the cloth so it wouldn't get icky and Hestia climbed up inside it. I'd like her to get out so I can plug it up, 'cause I don't like her being so out of my sight.

I managed to catch sight of her with a flashlight but she crawled up further inside the thing.

Has anybody else used these little branches and do you know if it's harmful? I would think that the hole was not put there just for snakes to use as a bed. Then again, I'm not sure. D:

I check everything for those types of holes and gaps before buying them. Usually it's the fish tank decorations that are the worst, but I noticed one stump or branch type thing at petco in the reptile section that had a hole in the bottom like that.
There have been several threads here from people who thought they had lost snakes when they crawled up inside decorations like that.

Seriously! She worried me this morning. >< Should I try to lure her out? I mean, there's no bad stuff inside there, right?

don't force her out, and don't by any means grab and pull on her. She will come out on her own. I had a snake do this one time and he stayed there for a couple of days, but came out on feeding day. After she comes out, I would take the branch out and then fill the hole with the expanding insulation foam that you can get to fill in gaps and such in construction.

All right, I'll be patient. Heh. Today is feeding day, so I imagine she'll be out soon and if she's not I bet she will be when she smells that pinkie. I'm just so paranoid! I didn't know if snakes could get stuck or anything. >>;;

Thanks for your advice! I'll wait it out.

Someone on here had that happen, and ended up cooling the branch and the snake came out. Like with ice packs??

Then use silicon to plug it up forever!! I had to do that with Inez's tree.

Mine gave me a fright that way as well...I looked all over the tank, moved the log out, and almost died from shock when I found myself nose to nose with the thing... :grin01: Just wait a while, he/she'll come out soon enough.

Grrr. This is so hard. I have the whole damn branch in her feeding bin and a pinkie in front of it. It's been like a half-hour now and still no Hestia.

I put a frozen burrito on the outside of the branch to try to cool it down so she'd come out. Jeez. I'm still sitting here waiting for her. I know she wants a mouse! I think she just can't smell it all the way in there.

This is taking so loooong. DDD:

Plugged up!

Okay, crisis averted. xD She ate and is all happy again and wandering about her cage like, "MICE I NEED MICE." I plugged that dumb branch up, too, she she won't be gettin' in it again.

That silly girl. Thanks for your help, everyone! ^^;

:roflmao: Mental image: Hestia wonders to herself, "hmmm, Mexican tonight? or Italian?"

Thank you for my evening chuckle. Congrats on your innovation and on getting your girl out. :wavey:

:wavey: Had that happen just a few weeks ago. Except my girl happened to go in right when she went into the blue. I waited as long as I could stand before I froze her out. Yeah, check all items that will be going inside a snakes cage. Unfortunately, we both learned the hard way.
