mattsnake

snake hunter
Just want to see what the majority of people use as substrates. I have used aspen type stuff, paper towel, shredded paper, and i'm going to try carefresh soon. What is the best and why?

I normal use bark (which i put on the poll), but i some times use shredded news paper or kitchin roll.

Thanks

Alex

as for right now I am using calci sand but rather than waste it I am gonna wait until I clean the tank and then change to something else. Either repti bark or just plain paper towels.

I would waste it if my snake was on that. Its a terrible terrible substrate.

Never use sand because they might swallow it (impactation)(sp?), and die or get very ill.

Favorite= repti-bark
mostpractical and cheap= newspaper/shredded newspaper

Repti-bark is just to expensive when you have more than a few snakes...

Feeding in the tank has nothing to do with it. Sand is uncomfortable for these snakes.

But no need to argue as you already house your snake on it and have made your choice to change soon.

Hehe, I use this bark stuff that is almost the same colour as my snake. You can barely see him when he's just sitting there, not moving. I now know how such vivid colours can be effective camoflage.:rolleyes:

How easy is it to spot poop on the bark? I just got him two days ago, so...

carefresh

I am using care fresh now and it's great. It is insanely asorbant, (you can pour water onto it and it will not touch the floor) the snakes seem to like burrowing in it, and it is good for the environment being 100% recycled. It is my substrate of choice right now.
