Substrate and hatchlings

Our babies have hatched and we are about to separate them. What we have set up right now uses vermiculite. Is it okay to keep the hatchlings in vermiculite for the time being? They've been in the incubator container in vermiculite and haven't showed any problems, but I just want to be sure.

We love to use EE for our established corns, but we're not sure about the hatchlings. Right now, they are still in the incubator container since we are trying to get the temp right in their sterilite boxes. They won't be staying in those very long either! We are selling and they'll be going into deli cups for the new parents to take home.

Thankyou in advance.

Vermiculite isn't a great substrate as it sucks in and holds moisture. Used in a tank (without the additional moisture that eggs need during incubation), it's likely to dry the ambient humidity which might cause shedding problems.

I use paper towel for hatchlings - easy to check for poop and straightforward to replace when soiled.

I think CareFresh might be nice for your situation with the babies in delis. That way they can hide if they like, and it's nice and soft for burrowing. AND it comes in pretty colors!
