Substrate question

Ok so I have been searching but haven't really found anything. I am currently using Aspen substrate for my snake. I am having a hard time keeping my humidity up at all due to the fact that I live in Arizona. I've tried putting wet rags on top of the cage to raise the humidity and spraying inside, but it only holds for like maybe 2 hours.
What substrate would work to help raise and hold the humidity? Cuz right now my humidity level is at 10%. Ichiro is getting ready to shed again and it's just hard to rewet the rags when I am going to school and work.

So any ideas?

What is your set up like? Plastic bin, glass with a screen top?

You can put in a larger water bowl. You can put in a bunch of vines and then mist daily, and cover the lid, if you have glass with a screen lid, with plastic wrap, loosely. I'm sure there's a different substrate you could use, but I'll leave that to someone else to answer.

I have a glass with screen top set up. And I have lots of plants in there and am spraying it daily, but it's not wanting to work. the rag I get pretty damp with warm water and then put a plastic board on top of it to try and hold the humidity. And I have a large water bowl in, so should I go up to a x-large? The temp on the warm side jumps from 84-87 degrees and the cool side sits at about 73-75.

I would first try covering the entire top with plastic wrap, just lay it on there, though, don't seal it down, and mist daily. I'd have a water bowl that covered about 1/4 of the floor space, if you can, and put it on the warm side.
