i was thinking on this boring cold rainy day:( what substrates do people use. and ive looked at a whole lot of rich z's photo's and i was wondering what does he use as a substrate?
 
I use crushed walnut for my snakes.

Plus:
Visually, it looks very nice.
If the snake accidently ingests it, it goes right through.
Clumps like kitty litter. Scooping out snake poo is easy!

Minus:
Kinda expensive. If you have a large number of snakes there's no sense in going broke for "pretty" litter. Essentially it's just there for the snake to poo on anyway...

I use Aspen for all of my snakes.

How is crushed walnut for snakes that like to burrow like my KSB.
 
My apologies on the questionable advice. The walnut has been working out great for my corns, but I do not breed them (no worries about egg drying) and have no problem with impaction. It was actually recommended to me by my snake friend, for all of the reasons that I listed. Still, I am a newb, having only two corns, and having them only 3 months. I really was sure that what I was saying was correct because I have not had any problems firsthand, and my friend really seems to know his stuff.

i was gonna make a new thread about this...but its about the same so i'll ask here instead :p
Whats too dusty Aspen? i mean it should all be the same sized aspen shavings and no large amount or any dust at all right?...but how large should the shavings be? Can i safely use any aspen shavings thats available in the pet store...assuming its not too dusty right?
