substrate

No, sand is a terrible substrate for corns.
paper towels are much better. Shredded aspen is also good.

Definately not. Sand is one of the worst substrates you could choose for a corn. It can cause impaction which is really nasty. Like Iris said, best to stick with aspen or similar.:).

Yes I agree sand isnt a very good substrate... It can dry out your snakes skin as well as impact them... I would stick with aspen... but if your low on money then get a shredder for paper and shred some paper that is for no use and use that...

sand and cat litter are probably 2 of the worst substrates you could ever use and i wouldn't ever put my snake in with sand as it can also cause impaction and it can dry out the skin

Hey Guys, For a substrate, i use repti Bark. It is from the company Zoo Med. It is 100% pure fir bark. It is excellent for holding in moisture for the humidity that is needed in the tank for snakes. But it does not stay 'wet'. Cleo Loves it, she digs and hides under it all the time. And it makes her tank look really awesome. As soon as I get a scanner i will post a pic of her in her tank . I was told that sand is really bad for the snake, and everyone else here has confirmed that. Good Luck.

I have seen people who use that, and it does look attractive. However I find it's rather expensive at my pet shop and I prefer aspen which smells super nice and is a little easier on my wallet. :)
(I'm a broke 15 year old with no job! A small allowance though, thank God)

No!! Do not use sand as a substrate at all!!

There are several reasons to this:
1) Dryness to skin
2) If you feed on substrates and snake eating these snake will not be digested or passed out
3) Sand can get into skin/scales on the bottom of the snake which can cause bateria growth which will lead to problems of all kinds
4) it doesn't look good anyways....IMHO.....

so either use paper towels, aspen beddings, news paper, and there are so much more choices for you to choose from....just not sand please............

I've used CareFresh for over a year, but last week decided to give aspen a try. I'm going back to CareFresh because it works WAY better on odor IMHO.
