Whooo, the Viv come - well the joy lasted 2 mins! i just spent one hour and a half! putting up my new viv! OMG!!! it was the hardest thing ever, by the time i had finished i was in my boxers i was soo hot and stressed!! but anyways, one of the front vents come off, and there like the ones you push into a whole in the wood so i went downtown and bought some super wood glue! now i asked "even tho its not going to be able to get to the glue will the smell harm my snake?" i got the reply "what do you think i'am a pet shop owner?" meh, so i bought it, and glued it! what do you guys think? it ses on it, keep away from children and pets! well its glued now and damiens in the tank? any ideas? i think its dry now tho... ill take a pic of the glue..

I think you probably should have done more homework before you used the glue. If it is harmful, most of the damage has probably already been done.

Once it's dry, I imagine it poses less of a risk. I would think one of the main concerns would be the smell/fumes. Considering the fact that many animals have a sense of smell that's much more acute than a human's, I don't really know what your snake might be smelling.

I would recommend that from now on you research these types of things before you just jump in and do them. It doesn't do a whole lot of good to ask if it's a bad idea, if you've already done it.

What I've heard about those strong glues like superglue/ araldite / etc is its the fumes that harm your snake. With those type of glues you only get the fumes while the glue is drying(i think, correct me if im wrong). Once it is dry it shouldnt do any damage, but id still recommend getting a "safe" glue if you intend to do any more. I mean, if you can smell those nasty fumes the snake certainly can!

I think PVA would of done the trick, because that doesn't smell at all and it works on wood.

glue is just like paint, varnish, stain, etc..........it still smells once it's dry. walk into a freshly painted room 6 hours or 1 day or 1 week after your finished.......it still smells. only time will take the vapor/odor away, and being inside such a small enclosure it might be too strong for your snake. anyway, that part of it is too late so hopefully it will not effect him. good luck.

PVA glue - Is that the same stuff thats used in hot glue guns? Been thinking about using blobs from the hot glue gun to fasten things inside the viv.....would this still produce bad fumes?

In the future, use aquarium grade silicone sealant and let it cure thoroughly before putting the snake into the tank. But as was mentioned, the damage has already been done...I hope Damien is ok. You know, kids die from sniffing glue.

hehe yea it was a right pain in ze bum! i cant smell glue now, the smell left about 5mins after it dried.. ive put my nowse right next to it, but nothing!!! all fresh, will he be okay do you think?
