Tail Question....

My Opal corn just shed, now the last 1/4" - 1/8" of his tail seems to be quite a bit darker than the rest of him. Is there something wrong?

With every shed, you'll see your corns colors develope in different ways. Some get lighter, some get darker, and some have random patches change. My normal, Mousetrap, with every shed, his 'stomach' gets more orange, haha. It's just how each snake grows, and changes.

Here are a couple of pictures just taken a few minutes ago. He shed on the 8th, what appears to be a full intact shed, but at the tip it's inside out so I can't actually see if the tip came off. As you can see, the very tip appears really dark as well as translucent. Otherwise he is very healthy, energetic, and eating well. :) Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Ok, so it's not his actual COLOR that's darker. I agree, soak it, and see if it'll come off. I'd hate to think it's anything serious. Gorgeous opal, by the way! Let us know what happens with the tail.

It is nothing serious in the literal sense of affecting the snakes health. Typically retained shed tips on the tail like that collect and eventually cut off the circulation. The tail tip will die off . . . and then fall off . . . leaving a bit of a nub. Not life threatening, but not something you want to let happen. Caught early enough, it's a non-issue.

I would think removing the shed from the tail would be a little more emergent than that- considering what's at risk! I couldn't go to sleep knowing _maybe_ my snake had a retained shed on his tail, which could cause his tail to die and fall off.

Be sure to give your snake the full 48 hours to digest before disturbing him. Loosing a tail tip won't happen within 2 days, and isn't life threatening anyway. Getting into a pattern of regurges can be. BTW, I have an amel that I let this happen to. No, I didn't do it on purpose, but I was distracted by the bloodred that I thought was going to die from regurging. He lost about 1/8" of his tail, and you don't even notice it.

HOT snake.
lQQks like there are a few sheds still left on the tail. you need to get that off b4 it cuts the circulation off and ur Opal gets nub for a tail. soak it in warm water and rub the tail in the direction that it would peel off as if it was shedding. it might take a lilttle time and pressure but in the end your snake will feel and look much better.

Thanks for all of the help. Mishu was out and about earlier so I tried to soak his tail. It seems to have worked. Now I know for next time. That is why this is such a good place, everyone is so helpful and nice. Hopefully I can keep learning so I can PASS IT ON. Thanks again

That happened to my snake..I soaked his tail & everything but nothing helped..the very tip of his tail ended up falling off during his next shed, but it's healed perfectly. The pet store person said that a few scales might have been pulled off when he shed last.
