Taming a wild corn snake?

Shegan

New member
I am new so if this doesn't belong here I apologize ahead of time.....

Is it advisable to take a corn snake from the wild and make it a pet? I have captured a few during the summer and they appear very docile and tame.

Thank you.

If you've researched keeping corns, and you're capable, why not? If you bag 50 a day for a wholesaler, maybe it wouldn't be cool, but one or three can't hurt. :)

There's really nothing to gain by doing so. There are plenty of breeders out there that sell any kind of color you could find in the wild for very little money. By taking one out of the wild for any reason other than introducing new blood into breeding lines, you're not really doing yourself any favors. What money you save by not buying one is probably going to be spent on vet bills for getting rid of parasites or something else. And compared to the price of the setup, the price of a snake is often minimal anyway.

Mine is a wild caught. I have never had a store bought snake actually and I have never had any problems with 'em. I've had about half a dozen corns and once I had a king snake... Corns are usually extremely docile and make excellent pets. If you don't plan on breeding or anything I say keep the wild and give him/her a good new home...
