tank setup for a BP

thanks :]

nope, no a/c down here so no dramatic changes during the day. Haha im crazy about checking temps so I'll probably be ok.

thanks again to everyone I think my pb will be a pretty happy girl thanks to your advice! lol
:D

I would just make sure that your warm area is about 90-94ºF and the ambient temperature of your tank about 80-84ºF. Plus, it is recommended to keep the humidity above 50% at all times. Also, I just feed my ball python in his cage. It doesn't really matter what you do as long as your snake eats, but some can get stressed out from getting put in a container and would rather just eat in the cage.

Thanks for the tips! I think since they are suck picky eaters i might just feed her in her tank if she wont eat in a seprate container.

What also works, again is a dark container with a lid. It could be a box or a bucket, both work very well. Some snakes are very shy.

A adopted my FIRST BP 3 weeks ago. My BP set up is pretty stable now that I have covered 70% the screen top with silver plumpers' tape, (no sticky bits exposed).

When he was in blue, i cranked the humidity to 80% (advice I got) and I got a one piece shed on a so-called "problem-shedder"!

He likes the aspen a lot and creates a depression in his hides to make himself cozy. I put 2-3 inches in the tank and there's no way it's gonna catch fire with my UTH. I find Aspen easy to clean. (BTW, i only have one subadult corn and my BP is 3 feet long. I couldn't believe the size of the pooh! It was as big as my cat's!)

But I digress...

The cool side temp shouldn't drop below 80 degrees, according to another forum I am a member of and a book I read. I have a 20watt light over the cool side to keep the ambient temp going around the area where the most air escapes.

I am very new to snakes. Read some books and go to some BP breeder websites as they have good advise on husbandry. Here's 2 of my fav's:

- good advise on shedding problems and breeding issues.

- good general care.

Yeah I'm deffitnally goign to try the dark feeding tank. :)
congrats on your adoption! :D he is a beauty! His set up is nice. Thanks for the pix are refrences.

so I was just at the petstore and I found the one I want shes nice and out going it actually surprized me lol.

Then i was at a different store and I was holding one that was a little bigger then the one that i want and he was just hanging out in the palm of my hand and all of a sudden he decided to strike the first time he went in the opposite direction of me and i was like um.. alright ill put you back and when i was taking my hand out form putting him back in he stroke again and missed me by a foot. Gosh he had really bad aim lol. the other ones were sweet hearts but that was one angry one haha just thought Id share that. :]

Heres an update of the tank.
I dont have any bedding down yet but i have almost everything set up I havent cut holes in the houses i made.

I completely forgot i know how to make little little half box things that work as hides and you can make them out of any paper and if they get soiled or ruined you can just toss them out and make a new one. Guess what? NO TAPE :D lol.

anyway

ps. The thermomoter and hydrometer arent saying there I havent decided where they are permently going.

How does it look so far?

shes not very big. shes roughly around 10-11 inches or so and our guess on age we dont know for sure but were (me and the people at the store) estimate around 4-5 months. I'm not sure if shes the exact one ill get but if she dosent get sold and I dont like one of the other ones better ill deffitnally get her. I picked her to hold when i went to the store cause she was out and about and really active.

If that was because you were wondering if the houses or the bowl was too small I already made sure they werent.

The dial thermo/hygrometers aren't really that accurate. I would suggest getting a digital thermo/hygrometer. I got mine from Wal-mart. Here's what I'm talking about:

You can see it on the left. It measures "indoor" temperature and humidity (basically it measures wherever you put the main unit) and also a little cable leads out of it with a probe on the end and measures "outdoor" temperature, but in this case the temperature of the warm side where the heater is. That temperature should be in the 90-94ºF range.

I havent gotten a chance to run up there yet but I was going to get one of those. My mom is in the hospital so everything has been crazy aorund here so I havent been able to go anywhere between visiting her and keeping the house under control. I need to be old enough to get my licence and a car lol.

How much was it?
