I will be getting my first corn snake on May 14. The wait so far has been really long and to pass the time (other than studying for class lol) I have been searching this forum to collect as much knowledge as possible before my 2010 girl comes home. I've read a lot of interesting threads and some that really pulled at my heart about ill animals. I think it's amazing how animals all have different personalities that effect us in different ways. It's touching how attached we become to our animals and gives us a relationship that we could not have with people perhaps. Every individual animal has it's own personality and I would like to have this thread be about them, as well as your relationship with them. What makes your pet so lovable? What are it's quirks and traits that tickle you?

Nim is my problem anery. She's regurged 4 times and is small and skinny for an '09. She is a feisty little thing and will come out of her hide to visit with me when I check her tank. I only pick her up twice a week for feeding and scale inspection to conserve her calories. She is special to me and I'll keep her until the end of her life.

Zara is my lovely pink snow. I got Zara as a male, but now think this one's female. Zara is the sweetest pet I've ever owned. She's younger then Nim and over twice the size. She is a drama queen, but I love her.

I find that all of ours have their individual quirks and interests. We have a couple that we jokingly call "lap snakes" because they are so docile and interested in people. Valen and Rio come to mind. They are always favorites of any crowd, in fact, most of my students know those two snakes by name and request them often.

Then there's my blue tongue skink, Avery. She is the most personable lizard I've ever met. She is definitely very aware of you, is quite a good eater and always has to taste everything you put in her cage. New food dish? Better take a nibble and see if it's edible. Nice cocnut hide! Can I eat that? Very funny.

Our leopard gecko Pyxie is the most fixated on people. It's like she has a 6th sense about when you come into the room. She always makes a point to coem out and watch what you are doing.

Sonja, our anery cornsnake yearling, is our best constrictor. She will grab the mouse and ROLL into a very tight ball around it, sometimes rolling all the way across the cage. We learned quickly to take the water bowl out first or she makes a big mess.

I think that all animals have personality, and it's up to us, their keepers to be able to see and recognize it by spending time with them.

^Agreed!!! I've always found it amazing how amazing reptiles can be as far as personality...

My first snake, Andy, also happens to be my most calm. She (recently discovered female) isn't nearly as active as most corns I've met. Not in an unhealthy way, she just tends to roam until she finds a place she likes (my purse or under a blanket with me) and will chill for a long time. I love to take her shopping with me anywhere cause she just sits her head on the edge of the bag and watches the world go by. If someone comes too close she slowly backs into the purse again.

My newest corn snake makes me giggle. He loves faces...he likes to smell all over it, mostly cheeks and eyes...and in your ears! It's the weirdest habit. And it's not like a normal corn exploring with one tongue flicker every 5 or 10 seconds, it is constant...and tickles incredibly bad. lol

My blizzard is a little firecracker! If she's not moving, she's not happy.

My beardie has an amazing personality too...he loves to be handfed, but only by me. My husband could sit with a piece of collard greens all day and the beardie ignores it and eats out of the bowl. On the other hand, when I feed him, he'll eat as long as I'm handing it to him and when I stop he looks between me and the bowl constantly until I either feed him, or get out of his line of sight. If he can see me, he assumes I should be feeding him...

I have so say that it is a joy to come home to my animals every day and they never fail to make me smile.

They really do have their own personalities. We call Sienna "Dora the Explorer" because she is always curious, always roaming around looking for new things to explore. She's such a gentle soul. Firefly is always hiding but when you take her out of her viv, she will just hang out on you without moving for a while. Mango is a scaredy snake. She hates being handled and will give it her best effort to escape every time. She's strong and fast. When she finally settles down, we think it's just because she's run out of steam...temporarily. It makes cleaning her cage a two person affair.

Even with 23 snakes now, they each have a personality of their own. People are amazed that I can identify each of them, but each one is so distinct to me!
Rakta still tries to fit his 300+ gram self into a paper towel roll, he LOVES those things. Candra gets so excited about food. He is my best constrictor.
Kanti is always moving. He loves to hide in your shirt.
Bakti is the friendliest. Everybody loves to hold her.
Zephon is the most laid-back. He just hangs out with you.
I could go on and on... I am attached to them all!

I just love hearing about everyone and their connection with their animals...there is just nothing else like that bond
