Temp Gun Q.

New Avatar!
I am getting so sick of my probed thermometers that seems to vary highly in their readings. I want to burn them at this point. :angry01:

I want to get an inexpensive but very accurate temp gun.

1. what are the brand you would recommend?
2. where can I find this brand?

Is there anything good at somewhere like Walmart so I do not have to wait a week and pay shipping?
Thanks.

Perhaps at an auto parts store they may stock something, but I don't think WalMart would have any infrared temp guns. They are also used in R/C cars so maybe a good hobby shop.

The problem with the cheaper ones is they have a 1:1 distance/size ratio which means if you measure from 12 inches away it measures over a 12" circle. To get an accurate point reading you need to put it right up next to where you are measuring.

I have the Pro Exotics PE-2 which goes for $45, has a laser sight and a 6:1 distance/size ratio so at 12 inches it measures a 2" circle. At 2" it measures a 1/3 inch area.

www.tempgun.com. They have excellent customer service as well. I bought mine on Ebay used for $18 shipped but it was an old model that ran through batteries in a week just sitting. I sent it in and they replaced it completely free of charge with the new model that uses AAA batteries.

Another thing to watch out for is the cheaper ones often use expensive watch batteries which run out very quickly. Find one that uses AA or AAA batteries.
