Ok so I have a 7 month old regular corn snake. Hes in a 29 gal. I have a heating pad underneath it. My thermometer was one of the digital ones with a probe. If I bury the probe directly above the heating pad I get a reading of anywhere from 85-95 f. But if I let the probe just lay on top of my substrate it stays at 70-75 f. Am I ok with my temp, or should I make some changes?

Snakes burrow. This is why the temperature must be measured beneith the substrate, and you must make absolutely sure that the hottest part in ANY part of the tank is about 85-87 degrees. No hotter. Snakes are unable to tell when a temperature is too hot for them and will not move before they are harmed. I advise using a thermostat to maintain temperature if you do not already have one.

Thermostats are vital if you are using an UTH as without one is will get to over 100 degrees. Which can cause brain damage as well as burns. You can get one at petsmart I assume as well as other pet stores.

oh ok cool thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. Ill get one as soon as I can I dont want anything to happen to Damian. thanks again
