Thanks for the info Alex Dew. Can someone also tell me what happens if you give them a frozen mouse? Is it like getting brain freeze? Also (MegF.) if you put mice in the microwvae wouldn't you be scared of Nuclear Radiation on your snake?
 
Microwaves work by exciting molecules, not thru radiation. And anyway, using radiation only works while you produce the radiation. We're not talking plutonium, more like producing an X-ray. It has no residue. The only problem I have had using the microwave, is that any gas bubbles, or air, like in the trachea etc. superheats rapidly, and they explode. Even on low, thaw. Hot water works better, and you can put the mouse in a plastic bag if you want to keep it dry if you need to.
 
I think Heather is right. They need to have a warm enough temp to digest, so I think it would be too much too expect them to be able to digest an ice cube. I don't know if you could get them to eat it if it was still frozen.

I put the prey in a baggie (keeps it drier), let sit in hot tap water in the sink until the belly is soft. Thaws quickly this way, no danger of exploding rodent :)

Heather, I'm lucky, my mom's really into pottery, I have lots of culls to use. I did get into a little trouble when SneakySnake was younger, and my mom saw that I was using my "microwave apple cooker" for his water bowl! Still LOL (never knew what that dern thing was for, I used it for a candle holder before I got the snake).
 
Hehe, I guess I'm fortunate to have roommates and family that don't get squeemish about that kind of thing. It takes a LOT to gross any of them out.

The previous thawing spoon was a plastic one that I only used for that, but right now, I'll use any mug for thawing in water. I just wash it out well afterwards.

But I guess that is no different than me being grossed out by meat, and not eating that, yet using the same dishes.
