The amazing disappearing mouse trick!

So last night was the night.

Thawed the mouse, put snake in box, introduced mouse, snaked headed towards mouse and opened mouth...the cat (formerly asleep) jumped up to see what all the interest was. Snake retreats. Cat gets locked up. :angry01:

Snake goes for mouse again, mouths it and turns away.

Covered the box and waited for about 20 minutes. No interest.

Reheated the mouse in extra hot water until hot to the touch, reintroduced mouse, snake shows renewed interest. 10 minutes later no mouse and one very chubby snake.

I'm so pleased. :dancer: It was one of the longest 30 minutes of my life.

This morning she's in her cool hide. I had to disturb her slightly to reattach her probe/thermometer to the bottom of the viv. Just did a quick peak to confirm her location before digging through the aspen. She appears happy enough to poke her nose out of the hide to see what I was doing. But the ducked back in when I noticed her noticing.

Congrats! :dancer:

Can you blame her for not eating a cold mouse? :shrugs: I wouldn't eat a cold one either!

Good thinking to reheat the mouse!

Pretty interesting..if this ever happens to any of my snakes (haven't had them for long)...i'll definitely have to consider giving "reheating" a try!

actually...I think I'd like to skip the mouse all together thanks :puke01:

She was really interested in it when I first gave it to her so re-warming made sense to try. If that didn't work I was going to give up for the night and get her a pinkie today going on the assumption that she was interested but that it was too big for her. She had been eating lg pinkies, but all the store had was little ones, so I got small fuzzies instead. So far so good.
