My Okeetee het sunkissed gal who I affectionately call my "BP Okeetee" finally laid her eggs. (Picture above was from before ovulation, btw. She's a big gal.)

It was her first clutch and we were waffling back and forth between thinking she'd lay a bazillion eggs or thinking she'd lay baseball-sized eggs. ;) Well, she got through her laying in good time with no difficulties and here are the results: 16 eggs, 0 slugs, all very healthy looking...but man, look at the size of these things!

Congrats!

I just brought all of my snakes in that were in brumation. I got pretty excited looking at how well they all did. I think some of them actually gained wieght! :shrugs:

Now I get to start the mixing and matching.

Terri - Just testing her for a coule things this year. Nothing too exciting, but you can never have too many motleys, to my way of thinking. ;)



And awesome, Clint! It always makes me nervous during brumation, I don't breathe easy until they are up and fat and sassy. Good to hear yours did so well!


And E.g.g. - You said it. Those things look like they're going to hatch out at 6-month-old size. I'm curious to see the weights on them. Most of mine hatch out averaging 6 to 8 grams and 11-12 inches in length...wonder what these boys will do. :D
 
I am a complete novice at breeding so may I ask a silly question, in the picture of the eggs, you compared them to some 7 day old eggs, does that mean the eggs grow as they get nearer to hatching?
 
Thanks Hurley! I agree with your statement about never having enough motleys! I LOVE THEM! I'd be happy if all of mine were motleys (and stripes)!

Eggs do increase in size as they get nearer to hatching. I put that marker on there to show that the eggs pictured were very nearly the same age as the ones just laid, so they should be a fair comparison. I've got some eggs that are a couple weeks from hatching now...and they aren't as big as this Okee's eggs at laying. :D LOL Big girl, big eggs. Now I hope they'll have mom's appetite...if that's true, they should practically grab a pink 2 seconds after slitting the egg. :laugh: j/k

Everything looks tiny in comparison to Mattie. :grin01: He's on the smaller end of average for an adult male corn as is, but certainly not as puny as she makes him look. LOL

Clint,

I weighed mine before they went into brumation the 1st week in December and then weighed them again last week, and I did have two that actually gained weight. I was trying to figure out how that was possible, but it's beyond me. One gained 3 grams and one gained 4 grams. They come out of brumation on the 9th.

This is :-offtopic but can anybody tell me how to convert grams to ounces?? I've got a scale I use for candle making and would like to be able to use it with my snakes without having to buy another scale.

JTG: one ounce is approximately 28.4 grams ;)
